HCCC on Access to Higher Education—you can still do it!
The vision of the Hispanic Cultural Center of Charlotte derives from a fundamental belief that access to education is a basic human right.
We, therefore, are deeply saddened by the recent change in North Carolina Community College policies. Under that change, North Carolina Community Colleges may “no longer admit individuals classified as illegal or undocumented immigrants into curriculum degree programs.”
These restrictions DO NOT affect any of the 16 public universities in the North Carolina State University system, nor any of the private universities in the state. These changes put the community college system at odds with its collateral organizations within the state. More importantly, these changes may limit access for some to the community college system, but these changes do not affect the policies of other institutions.
A partial list of colleges and universities NOT affected by the policy appear on our website under the list of schools that participate in our annual Hispanic College Fair.
